BLACK SUNRISE was formed in 1994 (Potenza\Lucania, Italy).
Beginning life as a trio with
Walter Basile (Drums, Keyboards, Vocals),
Valerio Vitolla (Guitars) and Valerio Basile (Bass, Vocals).
In July 1996 BLACK SUNRISE recorded their first
and now legendary “Under a Moonlight Sky” demo tape,
which was positively reviewed by many magazines
and fanzines from all over the world.
They was been in evidence by the journalists of
specialized magazines defining the band as a perfect
mouth-piece of a highly and original genre.
“Under a Moonlight Sky” sold out in 800
copies and got the band a deal with
Whiplash Productions for two CDs.
In July 1997 was recorded the debut CD
“The Shadowelf’s Poem”, but after several problems
with the Whiplash Prod. the deal was broken
and “The Shadowelf’s Poem” was out in
December 1998 for Nocturnal Music Rec.
This CD was positively reviewed, but sold
only 500 copies due to the insufficient promotion.
In August 1999 BLACK SUNRISE, with the line-up composed of Ivano Labroca (Vocals), Valerio Vitolla (Guitars), Quirino Guarente (Keyboards), Valerio Basile (Bass) & Walter Basile (Drums), recorded the promo CD “The Jester’ s Garden” to test the performance of the band and get a new deal with some reliable label. Nowaday BLACK SUNRISE ’s works are available both in European and American labels and distributions. The band never compromised and followed own way since the foundation. Actually some alterations have been in the band, in fact after the departure of the drummer Walter Basile, the singer Ivano Labroca, the keyboards Quirino Guarente and the bass Valerio Basile, the band went through an unproductive period in which they were engaged in searching new and strong members to become part of the BLACK SUNRISE’ s line-up. Now Valerio Vitolla, the guitar, is the only one of the original member of the first line-up. In June 2006 the performance of Astius as drummer and the performance of Kerberos as vocalist in rehearsals became index of equilibrium in BLACK SUNRISE, so they are both confirmed in the actual line-up as a effective members.
In January 2008 BLACK SUNRISE entered in studio
to record new material to test their performance and get
a new deal with some reliable label that understand
the underground spirit of unholy black flame.
The new songs represent the actual concept of the band.
Valerio Vitolla states: “The Lucanian

stay connected with the Underground Scene,
remaining far away from becoming commercial,
always true and honest with themselves…
